Magi Viljanen's installation piece at the Norpas Festival

PRODUCTIONS

Norpas ry actively participates in a variety of cross-cultural endeavours over land, sea and national boundaries. There are a number of current and ongoing projects in addition to the festival itself.  Our aim is to provide a multi-disciplinary meeting space for artists, to inspire new forms of collaboration and, wherever possible, to strongly connect individual arts projects with local environments and communities.

We have produced and curated a considerable number of diverse arts projects, some of which are showcased on this site.

Photographic concert by

pekka turunen and ismo alanko

The 'Photographic Concert' by photographer Pekka Turunen and musician Ismo Alanko was a custom production for Festival Norpas.

The performance consisted of photographic episodes compiled and converted to video by Pekka Turunen and set to individual
pieces of music by Ismo Alanko, supported by Jussi Jaakonaho. The show sold out twice at Norpas and has since been performed
at the Festival of Political Photography in Helsinki, at the Serlachius Art Museum in central Finland, at the Sodankylä Film Festival and on the new stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.

Tämän tahdon sanoa.

this i'd like to say.

This Norpas ry production led by Ritva Kovalainen has been several years in the making and continues to develop, most recently in the form of an exhibition and a newly published book.

The exhibition has previously been held at Festival Norpas in 2015 with an extended version shown in Kimito in 2017.

Based on interviews with local residents Marianne Jokinen, Sven-Göran Olin and Helena Laakkonen and with photographs from Ritva Kovalainen, this is a remarkable series of character portraits of Kimito islanders who have reached the grand old age of eighty or perhaps even a hundred.

The book is available for 25 € including postage and packing within Finland.

The VaSaMu Group

Norpas ry worked jointly with the Festival of Political Photography and under the direction of visual artist Marjo Levlin to launch an arts workshop aimed at local women on Kimito island.

The workshop has now evolved in to the VaSaMu artist collective.

The group, including a number of Syrian artists who have recently moved to the island, has produced a custom art installation for the festival annually for several years.

Oriol Hernando and the camera obscura

Spanish photographer Oriol Hernando has been developing his Camera Obscura project at the Norpas Festival since 2013.
Using a number of large cameras constructed from cardboard boxes he has photographed a series of portraits of artists and visitors at the festival along with scenes from his journeys across Europe, travelling between Barcelona and Taalintehdas.
The material is being used to create a decade long photographic history of the festival to be published as a book.

THE OKNO CULTURAL ASSOCIATION AND GALLERIA NOOK IN BARCELONA

Norpas has a close and confoundingly mysterious relationship with the Nook cultural space, artist residence and gallery in Barcelona and with the OKNO association that maintains them.
